Divine Mother of The Moon, 2009 Divine Mother of The Moon, 2009 -
In Greek mythology, Selene is known as the "Moon Goddess." She is generally depicted as a beautiful woman with a pale face, wearing lavish robes. Freshly washed in the waters of the Earth circling ocean, she begins her own journey as night falls upon the earth, which becomes lit from the radiance of her immortal head. When she is increasing after mid-month, it is a sure token and a sign to mortal men. In Roman mythology, the moon goddess is called Luna, Latin for "moon." Selene's Pre-Olympian Divine Greek Geneology:
As a result of Selene's association with Artemis, later writers sometimes referred to her as the daughter of Zeus.
--------------------------------- About The Style When I create a portrait, I intentionally abstract some portion of the facial features. I do this to symbolize the uniqueness of the individual depicted, and also to heighten the viewer's interest. Most features on Selene are depicted in a normal fashion, except for her eyes. The large eyes are intended to express purity and innocence. The viewer can recognize and feel comfortable with the normal facial features, yet there is a sense of disturbance by the enlargement of the eyes. This is an invitation for the viewer to be drawn into the portrait. |
